Different operating system may have different procedures to do the same thing. A search for the procedure should be very easy.
This should be done weekly to keep performance high.
- Disk Cleanup tool: Free up space on your hard disk to improve the performance.
- Remove temporary Internet files.
- Delete downloaded program files, such as Microsoft Active X controls and Java applets.
- Empty the Recycle Bin.
- Remove Windows temporary files.
- Delete optional Windows components that you don't use.
- Delete installed programs that you no longer use.
- Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.
Right click My Computer. Click open. Right click on local drive, (if you have more than one it's good to run on each one). Click on Properties. Click on Disk Cleanup. Check all box's for removal. Click on More Options. And Clean Up all three. In Windows Components (only check what you don't want). Installed programs, when you click on a program it tells you how often it is run. Rarely means not very often. Tool Bars are a NO-NO they mess with everything and track you.Keep only what you need. System Restore will ask to delete all but the most recent point. When you finish clean up you can set a new restore that will be the best. When done click Disk Clean Up and click OK. Wait for it to complete with out running anything. The window will close when done. Click OK.
Set a Restore Point.Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System tools, click System Restore, check create a restore point, click next. Name the restore to easily identify and click create.
That should help free up space and give you a small boost, for a real kick-start I highly recommend TuneUp Utilities. You can purchase that as its not really expensive OR you can be a pirate (I got my FB-EYE on you lol). Theres also the awesome FREE CC Cleaner. Cheers, Sam
