Let’s not forget Windows Sidebar Gadgets, which can also be a nice addition to the Windows GUI. In fact, gadgets are one of the most customized features of Windows. What about Gadgets that are actually part of the desktop? A free program called Rainmeter allows you to do just that, it seamlessly implements Gadgets that can display CPU activity, RAM usage, HDD activity, and much more! There are many premade Rainmeter Skins and Gadgets already available, which are also available to download for free.
