How to update your browser

Remember when your website simply REFUSED to open properly, or gave that annoying "Done, but with errors on page" crap on the bottom left of your browser window? It was probably due to the fact that the internet is evolving, and you haven't kept your browser up to date. Keeping your Internet browser up to date is very important because of all the potential security vulnerabilities that may exist with older versions and to make sure your browser properly supports all web pages.

Note: In addition to updating your browser it is also important to update any plug-ins, extensions, or other add-ons you may have installed.

 

Updating Internet Explorer

Microsoft updates Microsoft Internet Explorer with its Windows update feature. As long as you're installing all of the latest updates from Microsoft you should be running the latest version of Internet Explorer.

Updating Chrome

Google Chrome will update automatically as updates are released to the public. When updates are available they'll appear on the "Menu" icon. You can also check to see if you're running the latest version of Chrome by clicking on the Menu icon and then clicking About. If Chrome is up to date, it will display a check mark with a notice mentioning you're up to date.

Alternatively you can enter the below address into the Omnibox to display the about Google Chrome screen with update information and links.

Updating Firefox

Mozilla Firefox will automatically download updates and prompt you when updates are available to install. To determine if the Firefox browser is up to date open the About box by clicking Help in the File menu. If you don't see the File menu press the Alt key. In the Help menu click About Firefox to display the About Mozilla Firefox box. If the latest version of Firefox is installed, you will see a "Firefox is up to date" message in the about box. Otherwise, you'll have an option to download the latest update.

Updating Opera

Click the Opera icon in the top left corner of the window, click Help, and then choose the option to Check for Updates. If updates are available, you'll have the option to install the updates now or at a later time.

I myself am a proud Firefox user, and they automatically run my updates for me. Plus they are still the leader in plug-ins and apps, however Google's Chrome browser is hot on their tails with Opera not far behind. So whatever your preference is, ensure you keep it up to date and you will have yet another thing to smile about :-) Cheers, Sam
