If you use your computer in an area where others may have access to it, or if you have friends who go post statuses on your facebook (yep, I know), then locking your desktop is one of the most important things to do. Locking your desktop when you leave the PC is an essential task, and this trick is very easy to perform. These are steps that will create a desktop shortcut that will lock your computer with a few clicks:
1). Right click on an empty area of the desktop and choose 'NEW' option then 'SHORTCUT'.
2). Now the shortcut wizard will open; in the first text box, type "%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll". Without quotations people (some people need to be told, lol)
3). Then the next step for this trick is to give your shortcut an appropriate name on the next page, and hit 'finish.'
4). You will notice that the shortcut you created has a blank icon. To select a more appropriate one, right click on the shortcut and hit 'PROPERTIES' In the 'shortcut' tab, click the 'change icon' button.
5).In the 'look for icons in this file' box you have to type "%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll" click 'ok' .
And your desktop locking shortcut is now ready for use. Test it out. and run it! If you use Windows 7, then an easier way is to simply hit your WINDOW KEY+L. That will instantly lock your desktop. Just make sure you have a good password. Cheers, Sam
